As you may already know, this year Camp fYrefly is going to be a provincial camp. Our partners at the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services (ISMSS) are undergoing some restructuring and do not have the staff to execute an Edmonton Camp, so they asked if we could host youth from around the province this year.

We know that Camp fYrefly has a big impact on the youth that attend, so we are going to fill the gap left by the Edmonton camp this year. This means that we will:

  • Host 100 campers from across the province at Camp Chief Hector, this is 50 more youth than usual
  • Recruit more volunteers to support camp
  • Work with ISMSS staff who will assist us with camper and volunteer selection and help us to develop the camp program and workshops to ensure relevant content for youth across the province
  • Continue to work with our local Youth Advisory committee to ensure the camp reflects the needs of LGBTQ2S+ youth
