The Training Centre has reached more than 60,000 professionals in Alberta and across Canada since its inception in 2009.

Our evidence-informed workshops use adult education principles and are built to be interactive, engaging and transformative experiences for staff teams. We employ a rigorous evaluation approach to our workshops and are mindful of continuous improvement. Each of our workshops is tailored to the unique needs of your organization and stakeholders.

Workshop Formats

We can deliver our workshops at your location, in our on-site training space, virtually or in a hybrid format. We offer a range of workshop options for differing organizational needs:

  • Interactive half-day (3-hours) or 2-hour facilitated workshops for staff teams (up to a maximum of 35-40 participants)
  • Webinar-style or lunch-and-learn workshops (1-hour) for larger groups and teams
  • Customized training offerings based on unique organizational needs and context, please contact us for more information.

Fees and Costs

Our workshops are quoted at a variable hourly rate, depending on the sector of the booking organization. Our fee includes:

  • Engaging and evidence-informed workshop facilitation by an experienced facilitator
  • Preparation and consultation with Training Centre team member(s) to ensure training goals and outcomes are aligned with your organizational needs
  • Customization of workshop content to reflect your needs
  • Workbooks and take-away resources (workshop-dependent)
  • Certificates, by request. Please note that our workshops can be counted toward ACSW Category A credits for registered social workers in Alberta
  • Follow-ups and/or additional training resources, if necessary
  • Travel fees within Calgary City Limits, please contact us to find out more about travel fees for workshops outside of Calgary

This session is tailored to specifically meet the needs of HR professionals, management and leadership teams in creating safer and more inclusive cultures.

At the Intersection: Building Awareness and Capacity to Support People Experiencing Intersectional Stigma

In this workshop for service providers, program managers and administrators working in health and social service settings, participants will discuss and analyze the intersection of stigma related to sexuality, substance use and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI) with other forms of oppression such as racism, homophobia, transphobia or sexism.

Becoming an Ally: Being an Engaged Bystander

Explore the roots of harassment experienced by those with intersectional identities and learn tools to address discrimination, prevent harassment and be an engaged bystander. This training prepares participants to address harassment and discrimination in a way that empowers the person experiencing harm.

Beyond the Basics: An Advanced Workshop about Sexual Health, Substance Use, STBBls and Stigma

This advanced workshop is designed for service providers that are currently working in the areas of substance use, sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI), or sexuality/sexual health. In this training, participants will deepen their understanding of the impacts of stigma at an organizational and systemic level.

Challenging Organizational Stigma: Providing Safer and More Inclusive Sexual Health, Harm Reduction and STBBI-related Services

This workshop is for all individuals working in organizations that provide sexual health, harm reduction and/or sexually transmitted and blood-borne infection (STBBI) related care. Participants will critically analyze the policies, practices, and culture of their own organizations, assessing the strengths and challenges in providing safer and more respectful services.

Creating a Culture of Consent: Being an Engaged Bystander

This training outlines the root causes of sexual violence, addresses common myths and misconceptions around sexual violence and provides information about consent, policies and legal obligations to address sexual harassment. Participants leave this training with practical tools for creating safer environments for colleagues and clients, along with a deeper understanding of the role of an engaged bystander in creating a culture of consent and anti-violence.

Creating a Culture of Consent: Safer Establishments

Developed for staff and management who work in bars, music venues and festivals, this training examines how establishments can empower their staff to be engaged bystanders. Participants leave this training with a deeper understanding of the role engaged bystanders play in the community as well as practical tools for creating safer venues and establishments for colleagues and patrons.

Learn practical strategies for creating more inclusive environments for gender and sexually diverse (2SLGBTQ+) clients and co-workers.

Knowing, Naming, and Normalizing: Supporting Healthy Sexual Development

This training will increase service providers’ capacity to discuss healthy sexual development in childhood and puberty with the populations they work with. Participants will increase their knowledge of sexuality, sexual health and sexual health rights for children and youth

Increase your team’s capacity to create safer, more inclusive environments for Two-Spirit and Queer Indigenous clients and communities. This workshop examines the differences between sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation/attraction from a Treaty 7, Indigenous perspective.
