As a member of the Calgary Sexual Health and Wellbeing collaborative, we are happy to share some details about the variety of events that are being hosted to recognize “YYC Sexual Health Awareness Month”. Please take a look at the calendar of events below to see what the member organizations are offering, and feel free to share with your networks.

The Calgary Sexual Health and Wellbeing Collaborative is made up of organizations serving the sexual health and wellbeing needs of all Calgarians. The Collaborative was established in the fall of 2007 to facilitate a coordinated, collaborative community strategy to ensure that sexuality is accepted as integral to human development across the lifespan and all Calgarians have access to quality sexual health information and services.

► Also, the week of Feb 12-16 is  Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Week – an annual campaign by Action Canada to promote sexual and reproductive health in Canada. This year features the theme of Mind Your “Business. The aim is to spark conversations that help make the connection between sexual health and mental health. Check them out online at www.srhweek.ca or watch your social media feeds for blogposts, podcasts, a webinar, and more! There are also social media graphics and sample posts available.

At the Calgary Sexual Health Centre, we will be hosting a workshop on Feb 14th at our office. We hope you can join us to celebrate Valentine’s Day with some Sexual Health Awareness Month learning!

Calgary Sexual Health Centre: Working with Sexually and Gender Diverse Youth and their Natural Supports
Date: Wednesday, February 14
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Description: For the last 4 years, we’ve been learning about the importance of natural supports in the lives of youth, in particular for youth who are sexually and gender diverse. This workshop will increase participants’ understanding and awareness of sexual and gender diversity and the issues sexually and gender diverse (S&GD) youth face. We will discuss key strategies for working with S&GD youth, such as language use, how to find and work with their natural supports, and how to begin developing LGBTQ-positive practices and programs. We will also discuss what it takes to create safer spaces that are LGBTQ youth inclusive, and how to provide LGBTQ-appropriate referrals.

Location: CSHC office: 700, 1509 Centre Street SW

To Register: Please RSVP to msaona@centreforsexuality.ca
