Breakfast with Brian, our fundraising breakfast with Calgary Flames executive Brian Burke, wrapped up this morning. We were humbled by the response and can’t thank Calgarians enough for supporting this event and our WiseGuyz initiative. We would especially like to thank our sponsors, Flames Foundation for Life, Blakes and Bonavista Energy for their outstanding support. We could not have done this without them.

Thanks so much to CBC’s The Homestretch’s Doug Dirks for being such a wonderful MC for us. Thanks also to Minister of Human Services, Manmeet Bhullar, and Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Jonathan Denis for attending and to Mr. Bhullar for speaking so powerfully on the subject of homophobia and bullying.

Thank you to Mayor Naheed Nenshi for attending and encouraging Calgarians to support this critical work in our community, and thanks to the thoughtful and well-spoken Jon Cornish for his eloquent introduction of Brian Burke.

Finally, a heartfelt thank-you to the man himself, the passionate and uncompromising Brian Burke. We are so proud to have hosted such a strong advocate of LGBTQ rights and to be joining together on the conversation around homophobia and sports.

The best part of the day was seeing room full of caring, committed Calgarians who want to make a difference in helping create better school environments, changing a culture and transforming lives.

Thank you all for your generous support.

*UPDATE: In case you missed it or want to see it again, we now have the WiseGuyz video up!
